This is how it all started...
Omppurinne’s highly popular Harmonia pendant light was actually born "by accident"—back in 2018, we were running a handicraft shop in Salo. In the true spirit of the classic Finnish comedy character Sulo Vilén, Lauri ”Late” went ahead and bought an entire pallet of plywood just "because it was cheap." To avoid being sent to the doghouse by his wife, Late desperately had to come up with a use for all that material… While trying to craft a serving bowl, the pieces just happened to fall into a shape that inspired Late to create the very first Harmonia lamp. That lamp was sold the very next day after being brought to the shop. The exact same thing happened with the next ones.
A Facebook post about the lamp then completely "blew up the market"… A photo posted in a Finnish women entrepreneurs' group generated about 30 orders in just a few hours. People were actually criticizing the price for being way too low… The next major milestone was an article published by the national newspaper Iltalehti. Following that story, the furniture retailer Veken Kaluste reached out wanting to stock the Harmonia lamp—and that’s when the story truly took off!
Today, Harmonia lamps can be found in around a thousand Finnish homes. We also know that some of the lamps sold in Finland have made their way abroad—to Sweden, New Zealand, and Australia, at the very least.
